Workplace Relations Commission in Ireland denies compensation to oil refinery worker Eddie Desmond after dismissal for positive alcohol test, citing failed reporting and breathalyzer tests.

The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) in Ireland denied compensation to oil refinery worker Eddie Desmond, who was dismissed for a positive alcohol test. WRC ruled that Desmond, who worked at Whitegate oil refinery in Cork, contributed 100% to his own dismissal as he failed to report for testing within the required time limit and failed two breathalyzer tests. The company claimed its procedures were fair, and Desmond's claim of a "false positive" due to working with ethanol was rejected.
