UK automotive industry calls for increased government support for EV buyers as new EV market share fell to 15.2% in March.
The UK automotive industry has called for increased government support for private electric vehicle (EV) buyers, as the market share of new EVs fell to 15.2% in March, down from 16.2% in March 2022, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The industry body urged the government to temporarily halve the VAT on the purchase of new electric vehicles, revise plans for vehicle excise duty, and reduce VAT on public electric vehicle charging to align with home charging. The SMMT also noted that the overall new car registration in March increased by 10.4% compared to March 2022, with 317,786 registrations in March.
