Thousands gathered for Ramadan prayers at Hazratbal shrine in Kashmir, while Jamia Masjid remained closed and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq placed under house arrest.

Thousands of devout Muslims in Indian-administered Kashmir gathered for prayers on the last Friday of Ramadan, with congregations held at the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar, where the relic of the Prophet of Islam is housed, and at other mosques and shrines. However, the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar was closed by authorities, preventing prayers from taking place there for the fifth consecutive year. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chief cleric of Kashmir, was also placed under house arrest ahead of the prayers.
