The Supreme Court of India has imposed an interim stay on the Allahabad High Court order that deemed the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education Act, 2004, unconstitutional and in violation of secularism principles. The top court argued that the Allahabad High Court misinterpreted the 2004 act, as it does not offer religious instruction and its purpose and character are regulatory in nature. The high court previously declared the law unconstitutional and asked the state government to integrate current students into the formal schooling system on March 22. The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Centre, Uttar Pradesh government, and others in response to pleas contesting the high court order.
