Squirrelpox virus found in Dunfermline for the first time north of Scotland's central belt, threatening native red squirrels.

Squirrelpox virus, harmful to native red squirrels but not affecting grey squirrels, has been found in Dunfermline for the first time north of Scotland's central belt. The Scottish Wildlife Trust urges local residents to protect red squirrels by removing garden feeders to prevent spread of the disease. Grey squirrels are believed to be spreading the virus and competing with red squirrels for food and habitats.
