South Africa selects Globeleq's 153-MW Red Sands battery project as preferred bidder for a $300M standalone energy storage solution.

South Africa has chosen a $300-million standalone battery project, the Red Sands energy storage solutions installation, as the preferred bidder in a government procurement process. The 153-megawatt project, developed by Globeleq, will be the largest of its kind on the African continent and is set to boost South Africa's energy supply as part of an effort to transition to cleaner sources of energy and end electricity shortages. The project is slated to take two years to build after financial close, which is expected later this year.
