Caspian Sea Coastal Retreat Alarms About New Environmental Threats.

The Caspian Sea, the world's largest inland body of water shared by Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan, is facing decreasing water levels, possibly dropping by 9-18 meters by the end of the century, losing a quarter of its area and exposing 93,000 sq km of dry land. This decline is linked to Russia's construction of dams on the Volga River, the Caspian's main water source, significantly reducing water flow into the sea.
