Kosovo has launched its first nationwide census since 2011, surveying the country's ethnic Serb minority in the north. Funded by the Kosovar government, the EU's statistical office, UN organizations, and the World Bank, the $13 million census aims to gather demographic and socioeconomic data to help Kosovo progress towards European Union integration. The census, which began on April 5 and will conclude on May 17, will survey 1.74 million registered residents, of which nearly 1.5% are ethnic Serbs.
