Hawaii police officer Paul Applegate, who is part Japanese, has settled a lawsuit against Kauai County for $350,000, alleging racial discrimination by former Police Chief Todd Raybuck. Applegate claimed that Raybuck mocked Asians on multiple occasions and that the lawsuit settlement includes $45,000 in back wages, $181,000 in general damages, and $124,000 in legal fees. As part of the settlement, Applegate has agreed to retire from the department and there is no admission of fault or liability.
