Alberta's Court of Appeal dismissed Altius Royalty Corp's $190M compensation claim over coal power phase-out.

Altius Royalty Corp argued that federal and provincial moves to end coal-fired power over climate and health concerns were a type of expropriation. However, the judges ruled that such benefits accrue to the public, not the state, and therefore Altius was not entitled to compensation.
