Africa and Caribbean nations, with US support, propose an international tribunal to investigate transatlantic slave trade atrocities.
Support is growing among Africa and Caribbean nations for the creation of an international tribunal, with the US backing a UN panel, to investigate atrocities from the transatlantic slave trade. The UN Permanent Forum on People of African Descent has formally recommended a special tribunal, which is being explored further at African and Caribbean regional bodies. However, the scope of any tribunal has not yet been determined.
