27-year-old Gerard Clarke faces charges of assault, non-fatal strangulation, possessing an offensive weapon with intent, and breaching a restraining order after allegedly putting out a lit cigarette on his ex-partner's face and striking her with a shovel during a chance encounter in west Belfast. Despite these allegations, Belfast Magistrates' Court granted Clarke bail.
