25-year-old Ellie Wilcock was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer, with doctors baffled by a "mystery rise" in cases for the disease in people under 50. This follows recent research suggesting that bowel cancer cases will rise from 42,800 to 47,700 annually due to an aging population. Cancer Research UK is continuing to work with Dame Deborah's family, who set up the Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK after her death in 2022, to support those affected by the disease.
