USCIS extends work permits for 800,000+ immigrants, increasing EAD period from 180 to 540 days.
The USCIS has extended work permits for certain categories of immigrants, increasing the automatic 180-day period for Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) to 540 days. This temporary final rule aims to prevent work-authorized noncitizens from having their employment authorization and documentation lapse while waiting for USCIS to adjudicate their pending EAD renewal applications. Over 800,000 immigrants will benefit, with the change expected to support the economies where they live and help work-authorized individuals return to the workforce.
