Researchers identified rare gene variants in BSN and APBA1 increasing adult obesity risk sixfold.
Researchers discovered rare gene variants in two genes (BSN and APBA1) that increase the risk of obesity by up to six times. These variants, found in over 500,000 individuals, are among the first obesity-related genes identified that increase the risk only in adulthood. The study, published in Nature Genetics, could help scientists develop new drugs or tailor existing ones for obesity, affecting one in eight people.
