Study in PLOS ONE finds irregular work schedules linked to lower sleep quality, depressive symptoms at age 50, and increased health risks for Black Americans.

A new study in PLOS ONE indicates that working unusual hours, such as overnight or early morning shifts, can impact health later in life. Researchers at NYU analyzed data from over 7,000 adults aged 30+ in the U.S. and found that those with unstable work schedules had lower sleep quality and were more likely to report depressive symptoms at age 50. Additionally, the study revealed that Black Americans are more prone to experience health issues related to irregular work schedules.
