Puerto Rico initiates $62m seaport dredging project for larger vessels, faces environmental opposition.

Puerto Rico has initiated a $62m seaport dredging project to accommodate larger vessels, including tankers, for a new liquid natural gas terminal. Environmentalists oppose the project, warning it may harm marine life such as turtles and corals, and have filed a lawsuit against the US government. The dredged material will be deposited into the Atlantic Ocean, two nautical miles north of Puerto Rico, after approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The project is said to boost the local economy by $400m.
