7 Ontarians fined $400/day for refusing hospital-to-long-term care transfers per 2022 law.

Seven people in Ontario have been fined $400 per day for refusing transfers from a hospital to a long-term care home not of their choosing, according to the Ontario government. A 2022 law requires hospitals to levy fines on patients who need long-term care but are refusing to go to a home selected for them by a placement coordinator. The government previously stated that they were not aware of anyone being fined under this law.
