After a century, the Chicago River will host its first open-water swim on September 22, benefiting ALS research. The U.S. Coast Guard granted approval for the event, which will monitor water quality every 15 minutes. Swimmers will start at Dearborn or Clark Street Bridge and swim a looped course; 500 participants can opt for a one-mile or two-mile swim, and all must prove their open-water swimming experience.
