3 people were killed and U.S. Highway 24-59 was closed in both directions, north of Lawrence, Kansas, after a fatal crash on Wednesday afternoon. The collision occurred near the Jefferson County line at around 1:30 p.m. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol are investigating the crash, and drivers are advised to avoid the area and find an alternate route for the next several hours.
