Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signs the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) into law.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) into law, joining over half of US states with similar legislation. The act states that state and local government shall not "substantially burden" someone's exercise of religion unless it serves a compelling government interest and is the least restrictive means of achieving that interest. Critics argue that the law could enable discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community and others, while supporters believe it strengthens protections for religious expressions in the state.
