East Chicago man, Joel A. Barrera, faces charges after allegedly hitting an Indiana State Police squad car, injuring Trooper Kevin Council, and fleeing the scene. On March 7, around 11:30 pm, Council was helping direct traffic on Cline Avenue when his parked squad car was rear-ended by a suspect SUV, which then sped away. The suspect vehicle was later found with damage and open alcoholic beverage containers inside.
