The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has referred Vodafone's proposed merger with Three mobile network operator, owned by CK Hutchison, to a detailed investigation due to concerns that the deal may result in a "substantial lessening of competition" in the UK market. The $19bn tie-up, which was announced last year, would reduce the number of networks from four to three, raising concerns about potential impacts on consumer prices and quality.
