2019 Black Summer bushfires in NSW were caused by a planned RFS backburn that jumped Mount Wilson Road.
NSW State Coroner Teresa O'Sullivan has confirmed that the Black Summer bushfires in December 2019, which destroyed homes in Mount Wilson, Mount Tomah, Berambing, and Bilpin, were caused by a planned RFS backburn that jumped Mount Wilson Road, sparking spot fires that quickly spread. The coroner made 28 recommendations to the RFS commissioner, the NSW Police commissioner, and the CEO of Essential Energy but declined to make recommendations regarding the appropriateness of advice and warnings, stating that those issues were outside the scope of her inquiry.
