35-year-old Sam Whitelock, the most capped player in New Zealand rugby history with 153 appearances for the All Blacks and a two-time Rugby World Cup winner, announced his retirement from professional rugby at the end of the French club season in June. Whitelock, who also played 180 times for the Crusaders, winning seven Super Rugby titles, will not return to Test rugby this year despite being approached by new All Blacks head coach Scott Robertson.
