US egg producer Cal-Maine Foods halts Texas plant production due to bird flu detection.
The largest US fresh egg producer, Cal-Maine Foods, has halted production at a Texas plant after detecting bird flu in chickens. The virus has also been identified at a poultry facility in Michigan, with the company culling around 3.6% of its flock, affecting 1.6 million laying hens and 337,000 pullets. The Texas plant is located on the Texas-New Mexico border in the Texas Panhandle.
