9 suspected criminals were shot and killed in a shootout with police in Mariannhill, KwaZulu-Natal. The shootout took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the Desai township, west of Durban. Police were acting on intelligence and cornered the suspects before the shootout. The suspects had been linked to a string of crimes, including rape and house robbery. Two more suspects managed to escape.
