3 Sri Lankan ex-convicts involved in Rajiv Gandhi's assassination return to Sri Lanka after Supreme Court granted freedom.

Three Sri Lankan ex-convicts involved in the assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991 returned to Sri Lanka after nearly two years of freedom granted by the Supreme Court. The three men, V Murugan alias Srikaran, S Jeyakumar, and B Robert Payas, had served a 30-year sentence and were released in November 2022. They were initially lodged in a special camp in Tiruchirappalli before being brought to Chennai and subsequently flying to Colombo via a Sri Lankan carrier.
