Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are increasing efforts to combat impaired driving after a 31% increase in fatalities between 2018 and 2023, resulting in 385 deaths on OPP-patrolled roads. During the same period, police laid 33% more impaired-driving charges. Authorities urge motorists to be prepared to provide a breath sample during traffic stops, as Ontario law requires drivers to do so upon request, even without suspicion of impairment.
