Northern Ireland introduces Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) to reduce young driver accidents.
Northern Ireland introduces new driver rules, focusing on mandatory six-month training periods, logbooks for learners, and removing 45mph speed limits for new and learner drivers. The Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) scheme aims to reduce accidents involving young drivers, as they were responsible for 22% of such incidents between 2018-2022. Other changes include extending R-plate periods and addressing the driver test backlog.
