Labour's membership declined by 23,000 since the start of 2024, falling to 366,000 from a high of over half a million under former leader Jeremy Corbyn. Shadow Treasury Minister Darren Jones suggests that Corbyn-era members preferred a "party of protest" and that Labour needs to make difficult decisions in preparation for government. Jones also notes membership numbers fluctuate.
