Greece approves €1.15bn purchase of 35 Blackhawk helicopters from Lockheed Martin.
Greece has approved the purchase of 35 Blackhawk helicopters from US defence contractor Lockheed Martin Corp for €1.15bn ($1.24bn) to modernize its armed forces. The deal is part of Greece's multi-billion, 10-year purchasing plan, which also includes acquiring up to 40 F-35 fighter jets from the US and three frigates from France, as the country aims to revamp its defence industry and boost its shipbuilding industry after a decade-long debt crisis. Greece is also in talks with the US to co-design and build Constellation-class frigates for the Greek Navy.
