64.8g "Hiro's Nugget," England's largest gold nugget, failed to sell at auction for £30-£40k.
The largest gold nugget ever found in England, named "Hiro's Nugget," failed to sell at auction despite expectations it would fetch between £30,000-£40,000. The 64.8g gold lump was discovered by metal detectorist Richard Brock on farmland near Much Wenlock, Shropshire, last May. Bids reached just £12,000 before the online auction closed, but auctioneers remain hopeful it can still be sold.
