Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) successfully prosecuted a ship's master and shipping company, Fu Ye Shipping, for a 2023 pilot ladder accident that left a pilot severely injured. The master and company pleaded guilty and were fined AUD $5,300 and $32,000, respectively, for failing to comply with the Marine Order and Australia's Navigation Act 2012. The pilot ladder had not been checked regularly and had been stored improperly, leading to its degradation and unsafe condition. This marks the second successful prosecution for AMSA and the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) related to pilot ladder failures.
