Amazon is replacing its "Just Walk Out" system with "smart-cart" system Dash Cart in most Amazon Fresh stores within 18 months.
Amazon is phasing out its "Just Walk Out" checkout system in its Amazon Fresh grocery stores and replacing it with a "smart-cart" system called Dash Cart. The Just Walk Out technology, introduced in 2016, allowed shoppers to scan a QR code, select items, and leave the store without formal checkout. Amazon plans to switch most of its existing Amazon Fresh stores to Dash Carts within the next 18 months and will also open new Fresh stores with the technology. The company will retain the Just Walk Out system in a limited number of stores in the UK and some Amazon Go convenience stores.
