28-year-old Finnish conductor Klaus Mäkelä appointed as Chicago Symphony Orchestra's next music director in 2027.

28-year-old Finnish conductor Klaus Mäkelä has been appointed as the next music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO), succeeding Riccardo Muti, and is set to begin his tenure in 2027. Mäkelä will become the youngest head in the orchestra's 133-year history, conducting a minimum of 14 weeks per season. He currently holds positions as principal guest conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, chief conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic, and music director of the Orchestre de Paris.
