Supreme Court of India closes case on Mukhtar Ansari's appeal against a 5-year jail sentence after acknowledging his death due to cardiac arrest on March 28. Ansari, a jailed gangster-turned-politician, was convicted under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act in a 1999 case. The Allahabad High Court had overturned Ansari's acquittal and imposed a sentence and a fine last year.
