7 sq km oil spill detected near Kazakhstan's Kashagan oil field in the Caspian Sea.

An oil spill of around 7 sq km was spotted near Kazakhstan's Kashagan oil field in the Caspian Sea, according to Galina Chernova of the Globus environmental organization. The spill was captured by satellite imagery, and the North Caspian Operating Company, which includes Shell, Eni, TotalEnergies, and ExxonMobil, has been developing the Kashagan field. Kazakhstan's Atyrau region's ecology department will conduct a visual inspection and sample collection at the site.
