2003-2004 research links flame retardants PBDEs in consumer products to a 300% increased cancer risk in US adults.

New research links flame retardants in thousands of consumer products to an increased risk of cancer. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) found in blood samples of 1,100 individuals between 2003 and 2004 showed those with higher levels had a 300% greater risk of dying from cancer compared to those with lower levels. This study is the first to examine the association between PBDE exposure and cancer mortality in the general adult population of the US.
