Purdue University, INDOT, and Cummins partner to install a $11m wireless EV charging highway in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Purdue University and the Indiana Department of Transportation are partnering with Cummins Inc. to install a $11m stretch of highway that wirelessly charges electric vehicles as they drive. The project, set to begin in West Lafayette, Indiana, involves installing electromagnetic coils under the highway's pavement, allowing EVs with a receiver to charge their batteries while driving over the test site. If successful, the technology could transform highways across the US, reducing range anxiety and emissions associated with EVs.
