Laurel Wilt disease, a deadly tree disease affecting redbay and other laurel family plants, has been detected in Pitt County, North Carolina for the first time. The disease, carried by the invasive Ambrosia beetle from Asia, kills trees and has previously been found in Lenoir and Jones Counties. Forest health specialist Jim Moeller warned of the alarming threat posed by the invasive insect and disease to the local ecosystem.
