Ireland urged to adopt French 'fast fashion kill bill' targeting overconsumption and unsustainable practices in fast fashion industry.

Charity Retail Ireland Chair Mark Sweeney has urged Ireland to follow France's lead in tackling the environmental and social impact of fast fashion. France has introduced a 'fast fashion kill bill' aiming to place a levy on purchases from fast and ultra-fast fashion giants and ban advertising of such products. Sweeney highlights that consumption of textiles in Ireland has significantly increased, with 50 kg of textiles per person, compared to the European average of 26 kg. The French legislation aims to reduce overconsumption and unsustainable practices, which not only exploit workers but also harm the environment.
