British Steel has won a multimillion-pound contract to supply 9,500 tonnes of rail track for Egypt's first fully electrified mainline and freight network, the Green Line railway, spanning 410 miles between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean. This transformational project is expected to boost Egypt's transport network with trains reaching speeds of up to 155mph. British Steel's Scunthorpe plant will produce the rail, to be delivered in two shipments to Alexandria in May and June.
