UK restaurants and bars are cutting staff working hours and opening hours due to a £3.4bn ($4.3bn) annual cost increase, according to UKHospitality CEO Kate Nicholls. Major factors include a £3.2bn rise in minimum wages and an additional £224m from higher business rates. The new National Living Wage lifts adult hourly rates by 10% to £11.44, with employment costs making up over half of operating costs.
