A smartphone app developed at UCSF can detect early signs of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in individuals with a genetic predisposition, even before symptoms appear. The app's cognitive tests are as sensitive as traditional medical evaluations in detecting FTD. The app could aid in research and clinical trials, and possibly reduce the need for frequent in-person assessments.
