On April 8, 2024, over 31 million people, including millions in NY State, will witness a total solar eclipse, the first time Adirondacks will be in direct path of totality. The eclipse will begin around 2 PM and stretch across a 124-mile wide path, including the Finger Lakes and the Thousand Islands. NY prisons will implement a "system-wide lockdown" during the eclipse for safety precautions, and visitations will be canceled at 23 facilities in the path of totality.
