2 Level 1 trauma center consolidation in Appalachian Highlands led to a 24% decrease in death rates and reduced transfers.

A national study published in The American Surgeon revealed that consolidation of two Level 1 trauma centers in the Appalachian Highlands led to a significant 24% decrease in death rates among patients with the highest level of trauma activation. Additionally, the study showed that post-consolidation, patients required decreased transfers to other facilities, irrespective of the level of injury.
