Domingo, who starred with Gossett in "The Color Purple," shared his gratitude for Gossett's impact on his career, saying "The first day that I met Mr. Gossett, I said 'Thank you,'" and that he knew there would be no him without Gossett. Domingo also shared their final moment together on set, where he kissed Gossett's hands and asked Fantasia Barrino to sing a song of thanks. Gossett, the first Black man to win a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, told them "Knock 'em dead, now," as he had tears in his eyes.
