2021 C-section deliveries in India increased to 21.5% from 17.2% in 2016, according to a five-year study by IIT Madras.

A five-year study by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras found that the number of C-section deliveries in India increased from 17.2% in 2016 to 21.5% in 2021, despite a drop in medical complications during pregnancy. The study revealed that C-section deliveries were more likely in private hospitals and for overweight and older women aged 35-49. The research, conducted in Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh, was published in the peer-reviewed journal BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth.
