China marked the 65th anniversary of its takeover of Tibet with celebrations in newly-built villages near its borders with India and Bhutan, raising concerns in both countries. The events, which included a mix of border troops and local populations, marked the end of the rule of the Dalai Lama. China has built about 624 well-furnished villages in the border region as part of its poverty alleviation program and to strengthen national security.
